Gates Bar-B-Q

I really liked Gates Bar-B-Q! The sandwich was rich, smoky, and full of flavor — you definitely get your money’s worth. The portions are big, and you leave feeling totally full of BBQ! The staff were friendly and quick even though there was a long line, so be prepared for that The smell of BBQ hits you the moment you walk in — it’s hard to resist! I’m giving 4 stars only because the place could be a bit cleaner, but overall it’s a great BBQ spot with amazing food and a true Kansas City vibe. I’ll definitely come back!

It truly is the best BBQ in KC. Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere of the restaurant is a warm feeling like having dinner at Mom's house. You can feel and see the history of the restaurant. This location near leawood has the sweetest hostess who was so kind and helpful. We loved chatting with her, and she made sure we had everything we needed. Like I said, it was like having dinner with Mom.

Got to say I try an eat at a different BBQ place in Kansas city Gates was actually good but the experience and atmosphere was not what I expected. While it was good food and the beans and brisket were amazing, the service was kind of weird. The lady at the front just screamed at you and made you feel like you were in the military and don’t get out of line. I don’t know I can’t say I would try it again, but maybe not this location.

Best BBQ beef sandwich in the city of BBQ restaurants. Sauce is second to none. It won't happen, but it would be great to modernize their ordering platform. The cooks are constantly being yelled orders. How are they supposed to remember these orders? Somehow, they generally get it right. The ladies taking the orders are abrupt but I guess, this is their culture. Still love the food however.

Got the double-decker combo, beef and turkey and it was absolutely delicious. Gates is absolutely classic Kansas City barbecue. Great sauce, consistent meat.

I went for lunch with work folks. They were busy but the crew is very fast and efficient. I ordered a mixed plate which was ham, ribs, brisket, fries, pickles, bread, and a drink. The ham was very good. The ribs had kind of a sweet sauce and I personally prefer a dry ru but that's just a personal preference and the meat was tender and good. The brisket was sliced too thin, had no smoke ring, and seemed overcooked to me. Fries were delicious. I ended up leaving most of the brisket. Other folks in the group had burnt end fries and sandwiches and they all seemed to like what they had

Absolutely delicious! This is one of my favorite bbq spots in kc and hits every time. I enjoy this place a lot and I love when you walk in and they hit you with may I help you! The service is always great and fast and the food always smacks! Definitely recommend this place.
